Description
Participants will learn the hands on skills of making handspun yarn from wool.
Starting with a brief history of string/yarn making, the types of materials used and the practical benefits of twisting fiber for strength and durability, the participants will have first make yarn with a drop spindle. The invention of the spinning wheel was revolutionary and participants will have the opportunity to spin using a wheel.
The workshop will discuss the benefits of Plying and learn how to set the twist of handspun yarn and how to finish their yarn for use, such as knitting or weaving.
Participants will be able to take home any yarn they spun during the workshop
If Participants have their own equipment (spinning wheel or spindle) they are welcome to bring it along and learn on it.
