Pastels are a fun and versatile medium for creating expressive and vibrant works of art. Join this 7 week class to try your hand at a variety of techniques including layering, controlling edges, and adding texture and depth. Working with pastels can serve as a gateway to painting and also strengthen your drawing skills!
Topics Covered
This class will serve as an introductory course for students new to pastels. The elements and principles of design will be explored as you experiment with a variety of styles and genres. Color theory, color mixing, and layering are some of the topics to be introduced. Techniques will include dry wash, feathering, scumbling and dusting. Narrative works and other approaches to expression will be introduced. Instruction will include looking at the work of other artists, lectures, demonstrations, and individual support from the instructor.
