Build your speed and airtime at Virginia Canyon Mountain Park, a purpose-built trail system in Idaho Springs that brings the downhill moutain bike park experience to Clear Creek County!
This park features machine-built berms, and progressive jump lines designed for skill development and progression. This clinic is entirely trail-based, using repeatable features to build confidence through sessioning and repetition.
*** Note, this clinic will involve climbing the uphill trail - not taking the Gondola.
You’ll work on:
Berms & Cornering for Speed: body position, braking before the turn, and using berms to generate speed and maintain traction; understanding how berms differ from flat corners and how to ride them efficiently
Jump Fundamentals: proper takeoff and landing position, loading and unloading the bike, and building comfort on small to medium tabletops and rollers
Pumping & Flow: using rollers and terrain to generate speed without pedaling; timing and coordination to stay smooth and efficient
Prerequisite: This class is designed for experienced intermediate riders who are confident on blue and some black trails (you’ve completed our 202 class or equivalent). You are comfortable riding for 2–3 hours and have some experience with bermed trails, small jumps, or pumping terrain, even if you’re still developing confidence. You’ve tried trails like Rutabega, Fast Money at Maryland Mountain, and some of the blue and black trails at VCMP but aren’t totally confident getting more air and speed.
*** Note, this class will utilize the uphill trail for access, not the gondola, so please ensure you're comfortable with a very casual paced 4-mile climb, where we will work on a few uphill skills as well.
Equipment: A well-maintained mountain bike with flat or clipless pedals, a dropper seatpost, and hydraulic disc brakes is required. Helmets are mandatory; gloves, eye protection, and knee pads are strongly encouraged. Some light snacks will be available from the instructor, but please bring your preferred snacks and water/hydration mix to maintain energy. Weather can change quickly, so a light jacket is recommended.
Transportation to this clinic is provided from Buchanan Rec Center.
The cost for parking at VCMP and transport is included in the registration fee.
