All Ages (13+)You can probably recognize the distinct whine a mosquito makes when it is flying towards you in search of a meal. But how does a mosquito recognize you? How does it find you? In this special presentation, Timothy W. Schwanitz will share his ongoing PhD research, demonstrating how his scientific findings attempt to answer a variety of questions, and how his research fits into the broader question of how mosquitoes recognize their hosts. The discussion will highlight some of the methods scientists used to try to understand mosquito brains, and how these small brains can produce complex behaviors. Attendees will learn all about the lives of mosquitoes, gaining new insight and appreciation into the complex behaviors they can exhibit. The talk will finish with some general information about how you can make a mosquito's job a bit harder and protect yourself from mosquito bites.
This presentation will take place during the evening of the Preserve’s family camp out event – but you don’t need to be camping to participate! This is sure to be a popular presentation, and seats are limited, so don’t wait and be sure to reserve your spot early through our online registration system.
