What is Cryptology? In short, cryptology is protecting your communications while reading your adversaries (supposedly secure) communications. This course will review American Cryptology from its beginnings during the American Revolution through the remarkable cryptologic achievements during the Second World War.

Evolving from ciphers to obscure written messages to encrypted electronic communication over wires and radio, this chapter of American cryptologic history is the story of a relative handful of brilliant people serving U.S. military and diplomatic goals.
