About this event

Description

Theresa is a descendant of the Wampanoag tribe. She was raised on the southernmost tip of Mi’kma’ki, the traditional and ancestral land of the Mi’kmaw. She now resides with her family just outside Kjipuktuk (Halifax). Theresa has been beading for more than a decade, turning to beadwork as a way of reconnecting with her culture and deepening her relationship with her ancestors and traditional ways of knowing. During the pandemic, she founded The Beaded Crow, discovering in the process that beading offered not only a creative outlet, but also a sense of grounding, reflection, and healing.Jewelry has held a special place in Theresa’s life for as long as she can remember. As a young girl, she would explore her grandmother’s jewelry box, adorning herself from head to toe in her grandmother’s treasures. The crow holds a particularly meaningful place within Theresa’s work. Seeing a single crow is a quiet reminder that her grandmother is always near, watching over her.The beaded poppy workshop brings together traditional beading with a modern twist Participants will bead around a laser engraved wooden poppy utilizing the traditional medicine wheel colours. It is a greater beginner project and one that participants will take pride in wearing.
