About this event
This dynamic art camp invites high school students to push beyond the basics and explore painting through the exciting world of mixed media. Designed for curious, creative teens, this week-long experience blends technical skill-building with personal expression. Students will experiment with watercolor, acrylic, ink, graphite, collage, and textured materials—learning how to layer, combine, and transform surfaces in unexpected ways. We’ll explore composition, color relationships, mark-making, and abstraction while also strengthening observational skills. Daily demonstrations will introduce new techniques, followed by guided studio time for students to develop their own ideas. Projects may include: expressive portrait or figure studies with layered media, nature-inspired abstractions, collage-based storytelling pieces and more. Along the way, we’ll look at contemporary and historical artists for inspiration and discuss how artists use materials to communicate mood, meaning, and message. Whether students are building a portfolio or simply exploring their artistic interests, they’ll leave with new techniques, finished artwork, and a stronger sense of their unique visual voice.
