This course is designed to meet the job performance requirements of NFPA 1001. Students will learn the fundamentals of firefighting skills through this blended learning course which will combine online learning with intense practical application. The course is designed to assist students with obtaining certification through a self-paced style of instruction and includes certification in Firefighter Level 1, First Aid and CPR, Hazardous Materials Awareness, and Hazardous Materials Operations. This course is IFSAC eligible. Instructors: Mat Neil and Kayla Neil Pre-Requisite: None Students must attend orientation weekend to take this course at the fire school. The orientation will be held on Saturday, January 24 at 8am and Sunday, January 25 at 8am. Class will meet on January 24, January 25, March 6, March 7, March 8, March 13, March 14, and March 15. On Friday's, class will begin at 6pm and on Saturdays and Sundays class will begin at 8am. This is a Blended Learning class that requires independent study and a commitment to learning. Students will be given their text and a Course Access code at the first meeting. Students are expected to complete all of the on-line assignments and read the requisite course materials to be prepared to test on the weekend of March 13-15, 2025. ABSOLUTELY NO REFUNDS CAN BE ISSUED FOR THIS CLASS ONCE YOU REGISTER. ** Because this is a Blended Learning Class, each student will need to have a Mentor from their department or organization who is willing to work with the student and provide out of class support. Mentors will work with students in their stations to ensure that the student is practicing key skills necessary for certifications. Fire School time will be devoted primarily to re-enforcing skills and assessing competencies - not teaching. *** THERE WILL BE AN ADDITIONAL FEE TO BE PAID TO THE BURN FACILITY FOR THE LIVE BURN PORTION OF THIS COURSE. IT IS NOT INCLUDED IN YOUR TUITION.
