Want to build the confidence to sketch anywhere, anytime? This 6-week course focuses on the "urban sketching" style, exploring how to simplify the world around you using mixed media (ex., fine-line pens, water-soluble graphite/markers, and light watercolor). Designed to be fresh and engaging for returning students while remaining highly accessible to beginners, this class explores foundational elements like line, shape, perspective, value, and texture.
Students will work from real-life objects they bring themselves, culminating in two indoor on-location sessions to practice sketching comfortably in public spaces.Weekly Breakdown:
Week 1: The Art of Seeing (Line & Shape in the Art Room)
Week 2: The Illusion of Space (Form & Perspective in the Art Room)
Week 3: On-Location Architecture (Line & Perspective at Thomas Memorial Library)
Week 4: Playing with Contrast (Value & Depth in the Art Room)
Week 5: On-Location Cozy Spaces (Texture & Media at a local cafe)
