Description

Welcome to BCIT Advanced Volleyball League!

Bump, spike and set to the top! This league is for intermediate to advanced players looking to play volleyball. This is a mixed-category* league that offers 8 regular season games and up to 2 playoff games.

How it Works

All games are played weekly, self-officiated and played at co-ed net height. Please note, this is a structured league that requires players to commit to playing on a weekly basis.

Please note: Due to scheduling limitations, players are only permitted to play on one team per semester. Players cannot register for Advanced AND Recreational Volleyball Leagues. Advanced players are not permitted to substitute on Recreational league teams.

Cost

  • 20% Off Earlybird Price (Sep 8, 2026 - Sep 18, 2026): $16 + tax per player
  • Regular Price (Applies on and after Sep 18, 2026): $20 + tax per player

Who should sign up for the Advanced Volleyball League?

This league is intended for players looking play volleyball in a fun, competitive environment against fellow BCIT community members. You might consider joining if:

  • Your team is made up of mostly intermediate to advanced players.
  • Your team has a strong overall understanding of volleyball rules.
  • Your team has one or more current or former high school, club and/or collegiate-level volleyball players.

It is the responsibility of teams to self-assess their overall skill level and register in the most appropriate category. Teams may be approached to move into Recreational category if staff deem appropriate and league scheduling allows.

What is Mixed-Category?

This category welcomes all individuals to participate regardless of gender; however, teams must adhere to a minimum number of 2 self-identifying women (trans women welcome) on the team who play a minimum of 50% of games in the regular season. Self-identifying women must play in all playoff games.

Flex Re-Pool/Reseeding System

With a growing community, a flex re-pool/reseed will allow teams to be slotted into the best league category. During the first 2 weeks of games, team will be evaluated by Intramural Staff on a set of criteria. This, alongside teams' Win-Lose Record will be considered during re-seeding, which may result in a team moving into a different category for the remainder of the season. Restructuring of the league will allow for a balanced league, but remains fun for all participants.

Structure:

  • Week 1 and 2: Recreational and Advanced Leagues (True to Registration)
  • Week 2-8: Recreational and Advanced Leagues (Top 4 teams in the Recreational League will move into the Advanced League, the bottom 4 teams in the Advanced League will move into the Recreational League)
OR
  • Week 2-8: Recreational, Intermediate, and Advanced Leagues (The top 4 teams in the Recreational League and the bottom 4 teams in the Advanced League will move into the Intermediate League)
Please Note:
* This structure may not come into effect* The first 2 weeks of games will not count towards league standings* If the league is split into 3 categories, Recreational players may only substitute on Intermediate League teams, Intermediate players may substitute on both Recreational and Advanced League teams, and Advanced players may only substitute on Intermediate League teams.
