Description
This program is designed to train students for entrance into Central Supply Services. The Central Sterile Processing program prepares students to develop skills necessary to properly disinfect, prepare, process, store, and issue both sterile and non-sterile medical/surgical supplies and equipment for direct patient care. Graduates of the program will be eligible to apply to take the National Institute for the Certification of Healthcare Sterile Processing and Distribution Personnel Examination through the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD). Guidelines do change often and there is no guarantee of completion of the Certification. Employment opportunities include: inpatient/outpatient surgery centers, dialysis units/facilities, and central sterile processing units in hospitals. When a Central Sterile Processing Technician completes an application for New York State Certification and the National Institute for the Certification of Healthcare Sterile Processing and Distribution Personnel Examination, questions are asked about conviction of a crime and pending charges. If the answers are in the affirmative, particulars and disposition of each charge must be listed. A conviction is not an automatic bar to certification; however, each case is considered and investigated on its own individual merits The 20-hour clinical will be held during the day and will be determined by the instructor.
