About this event
Thermofax Workshop with Peter Chronis September 19th, 1-4pm Peter Chronis, our longtime studio member & skilled handbuilder, will be leading a workshop on how to create a reusable silkscreen, using the studio thermofax machine, that transfers graphic images onto your slabbed pottery or thrown pieces. The work of using screens can be done at the leather hard stage. You can make screens with clip-art, drawings or text, and print using Feet of Clay slip, or your own commercial underglazes. The workshop will be rolling out slabs in white stoneware clay to form hand-built pieces. After a demonstration, students will have a chance to transfer their own image onto their pieces. The cost of the thermofax film is not included, and is $5 for a 8 1/2 x 11 sheet. You can either bring cash or we will charge your card after the workshop for the sheets used. What to Bring to the Workshop: Clay: (White, BMix or Porcelain for Handbuilding), or If you want to practice on a thrown piece, have a thrown piece prepared, finished very smooth, and not past the leather hard stage. Photocopies: High Contrast. Printed from an ink printer or photocopied, with a high carbon count. If you are unsure of your printer, photocopy the image and bring both. Types of Images to Bring: Art from a Clip Art website will work well. Photographs do not generally work well. The gradient part of the image has trouble transferring. Start with something simple. Think graphic images! Prints should be on paper, not transparency. Cash for any extra Thermofax Screens: Cost is $5 for each screen. You can purchase sheets in cash the day of the workshop, or we can charge your card after the workshop for what you used. Set of Tools: Rib, Wire tool, Sponge, Paint Brushes, Towel.
