Description

Our Pascal Bonitzer Retrospective continues with Maigret and the Dead Lover (Maigret et le mort amoureux), the acclaimed director’s contemporary take on Georges Simenon’s legendary detective. Denis Podalydès of the Comédie-Française stars as the gruff but human Inspector Maigret, investigating the mysterious murder of a former ambassador. As he questions an elusive circle of family members, household staff, and Parisian elites, including Irène Jacob (The Double Life of Véronique, A Private Life) as a particularly enigmatic suspect, Maigret methodically works his way toward the truth. The screening will be introduced by Barbara Bouquegneau, President and Executive Director of the French Library, who will lead a discussion following the film. The evening will include a reception where guests can connect and share their thoughts over a glass of wine and complimentary pop-corn. Movie in French with English subtitles.
