Introduction to Mixed Media and Collage: Grades 6 - 8Instructor: Anne Ritchie

During this 10-week class, students will be introduced to various techniques and materials used in creating collage and mixed media pieces. Included in the introduction of both styles will be examples of historical and contemporary collage and mixed media artists. Gathering diverse materials both in studio and at home will give them a base of different textures and images to create dynamic and introspective compositions. They will be starting with basic collage techniques then moving into mixed media and the more advanced building of 3D elements such as altered box structures. They will create pieces using paint, experimenting with watercolor, acrylics and opaque markers to add details and enhance their art. Students will learn how to connect personal ideas and meaning into their work and discuss what message they wish to convey.
