Description
Painting / Mixed Media: Abstract Expressionist Collage
Instructor: Sheri Lee Robinson
Let’s get abstract..with collage!
In the mood to make some drawings and paintings and then rip them into pieces? I am! Let me guide through this cathartic and transformative creative process. Together, we will create a small body of work whose sole purpose will be to be re-crafted into a brand new collection of abstract collages on paper. This satisfying, multi-faceted process teaches the artist about the act of freely creating art with the intention of deconstructing it in order to give birth to a new, rearranged, complex work of art.We will spend time focusing on the history of collage and will look at the work of several major Abstract Expressionist artists such as Robert Motherwell, Lee Krasner and Willem De Kooning for examples and inspiration. I also will share several examples from my own studio and will teach the exciting mixed media process that I employ to create my work. Our focus will be on abstract compositions, but you may also create or use existing subjective initial pieces that can then be taken apart and used in your abstract collage. Already have some drawings and paintings at home that maybe are not working? Bring them in and use them! Old photos? Letters? Bring them along to be transformed into new art. This class is open to all. Prepare to have a lot of fun and to leave with a brand-new body of work. See you in the studio! No prerequisites or experience needed.
