Mixed Media:Graphic Arts & Surface Design / Original Repeating Patterns
Instructor: Ray Seebeck
Students will learn how artists and designers create original repeating patterns used in textiles, fashion, wallpaper, interiors, and contemporary art. Beginning with a floral image, architectural detail, drawing, or other visual reference, students will develop their own motif and learn techniques for tracing, composition, registration, and repeat construction to create a seamless pattern design. Final works can be completed with drawing materials, paint, collage, or digital color methods.

Materials List
Instructor provides:Tracing paper, mixed media paper, transfer paper.Students bring:Sketchbook, pencils/eraser, black ink pens, scissors, and personal source imagery/photos.
Optional:Laptop/tablet/iPad, drawing pad/paper of choice for final work, drawing materials of choice such as watercolor/gouache, colored pencils, charcoal, or pastels, collage materials such as old magazines/newspapers.
