Reading the Creative Spirit: An Exploration of Creative Books & Artmaking

Do you love to be inspired by creative books? I do! In this six-week course, students read / peruse /listen to three books that I have selected and that have inspired many. They will then make new work in response to each book as I guide them through various art-making techniques. Robert Henri's The Art Spirit, A Joseph Campbell Companion, and Rick Rubin's The Creative Act — each get two weeks of reading, discussion and two studio sessions of art-making devoted to the inspirations involved within these incredible books.

Every class opens with a short discussion of the reading, then we move into art-making. Students will work in collage, assemblage, and abstract / automatic mixed-media drawing. All are welcome, and no art-making experience is needed. Get your nose in a good book then meet me in the Studio!
