Join MSAD #44 Administration for a practical training designed to prepare you for substitute teaching in our schools. Drawing on their classroom knowledge and experience, administrators will provide guidance on school policies, daily procedures, and effective classroom management strategies. Participants will learn how to navigate different grade levels and subject areas, maintain a positive learning environment, and support student success when a regular teacher is absent. This training will help you build confidence and feel prepared for a successful experience in the classroom. Important: Fingerprinting and Background Check Requirements All Maine schools require fingerprinting, a Criminal History Records Check (CHRC), and a Maine Department of Education (DOE) account. The Adult Education office can help you set up your account, schedule fingerprinting, and upload the required documents. We strongly encourage you to make an appointment with the Adult Education office before the training to get started on your background check, fingerprinting, and DOE account. We will also be available to assist during the training, but time will be limited. Please come prepared with the following: Social Security number Credit or debit card to pay the required fees for CHRC Approval license OPTIONAL: Copy of your high school diploma and/or updated high school transcripts OPTIONAL: Any college diplomas and/or transcripts, if applicable Please plan for a total of $70 in fees for fingerprinting and the CHRC. Looking ahead: Your fingerprinting and background check credentials are valid for five years. Once you have completed these requirements, you can use your credentials to pursue substitute teaching opportunities at schools throughout Maine, as well as coaching positions and Educational Technician (Ed Tech) employment, provided you meet any additional requirements for those roles.
