About this event
In this hands-on workshop, students will be introduced to the basics of safe and effective wood carving. We'll begin with a brief overview of knife safety and how to keep your tools sharp, followed by a look at essential carving tools that can make the experience more enjoyable and efficient. Students will also get to see examples of different types of wood and grain patterns, as well as finished spoons and forks for inspiration. After the introduction, participants will receive their own wood blanks and tools to begin carving. The majority of the class will be spent carving, with the instructor offering one-on-one guidance and support throughout. This is a relaxed, interactive class designed for beginners or those looking to refine their skills. By the end of the session, each student will leave with a completed or nearly completed spoon or comb, along with the foundational knowledge and confidence to continue carving on their own. Students will need to bring their own knife. Either folding, fixed blade, or utility knife (box opener). A knife with a comfortable handle is preferred. Handsaws and hatchets are also nice if you have them. Gloves are optional.
