This class focuses on one of the most important responsibilities of firearm ownership: preventing negligent handling and unauthorized access. Students will review fundamental firearm-safety principles and explore practical storage considerations for different households and lifestyles. Topics include: • Fundamental firearm-safety rules • Safe handling habits • Preventing unauthorized access • Children and firearms • Guests and visitors in the home • Storage options • Lockboxes and quick-access storage • Vehicle-storage considerations • Balancing accessibility and security • Creating a household firearm-safety plan Students will work through common household scenarios and consider how storage requirements may change when children, teenagers, grandchildren, guests or other individuals are present. This isn't about declaring that one safe, lock or storage method works for everybody. It's about helping you ask the right questions about your household, your firearm and your responsibilities.
