Class Description – Buying & Carrying a Self-Defense Handgun There is no shortage of opinions about which handgun you should buy. Your friend has an opinion. Your spouse has one. The internet has approximately 47 million of them. This class teaches you something more useful: how to evaluate a handgun for yourself. Students will join Crosshairs Texas instructors for a hands-on classroom discussion about selecting a handgun for personal protection based upon the individual shooter, intended purpose, experience level and training needs. Students will explore: • Common handgun types and sizes • Intended use and purpose • Grip size, fit and ergonomics • Handgun controls and operation • Sights and common features • Capacity considerations • Reliability and practical considerations • Concealed-carry considerations • Holsters and safe carry equipment • Useful accessories vs. unnecessary accessories • Training considerations before carrying Students will have an opportunity to compare representative handgun designs and learn what questions they should ask before making a purchase. The goal isn't to tell you which handgun is “best.” The goal is to help you make an informed decision about which handgun may best fit you, your intended use and your ability to train with it safely.
