One of the quiet responsibilities of fatherhood is knowing when a son needs more than encouragement—he needs to be marked, affirmed, and called forward by his father. As our boys grow they are forming their sense of identity, strength, and responsibility whether we name it or not. We fathers mustn’t leave that work to chance. This spring, I’m inviting a limited number of Brook Hill fathers and their Middle School and Upper School sons to step away together for a focused weekend at Campus by the Sea on Catalina Island, April 24–26, 2026. The Brook Hill Father–Son Retreat is designed to help fathers do something essential: intentionally walk with their sons at a meaningful stage of maturing into manhood. This is not a camp for boys. It is a retreat for fathers and sons together. Over the weekend, fathers and sons will: · Fish along the Catalina coastline, including eel catching · Kayak, snorkel, and explore the island by water · Hike Catalina’s rugged terrain · Face physical challenges that build confidence, perseverance, and teamwork · Receive biblical teaching on manhood and responsibility · Participate in rite-of-passage sessions, including a guided ceremony where fathers speak blessing, identity, and direction over their sons Every activity is purposeful. The aim isn’t entertainment—it’s formation. These shared experiences give fathers the space and structure to say things that often go unsaid but are deeply needed. We’ll stay at Campus by the Sea, with all meals, lodging, ferry transportation, and on-island activities included. This retreat is not about being perfect fathers. It’s about being present, intentional, and faithful—about doing what a dad does when the moment calls for it. For many sons, this weekend will become a reference point. For many fathers, it will be a quiet assurance: I showed up. I spoke clearly. I did my part.
