THE FIELD GUIDE TO EMBROIDERY: PICK YOUR OWN PATTERN /Jessica Kemper
Wednesdays from 6P - 7:30P
April 1st - May 6th 6 Weeks
Class Fee: $140

Get familiar with the 5 stitches used in the book "The Field Guide to Embroidery" and select whichever pattern(s) speak to you to work on during this 6-week course. The instructor Jess is the author, so she is extremely familiar with the patterns and will help you at every turn no matter the pattern you choose. Class copies of the book will be available for all to use during class, or feel free to purchase/bring your own copy (I will have some for sale if you'd like to buy one in class). There are also copies available at the library if you'd like to use one at home between classes.

The Field Guide to Embroidery has 52 patterns, divided into 7 ecosystem chapters: desert, prairie, ocean, urban, mountains, waterways, and forests. There is a mix of mammals, reptiles, amphibians, birds, a few invertebrates and flowers/plants. There are patterns available that are great for Beginners – Intermediate.

The first week of class we will practice the 5 stitches used in this book including the special "fur" stitch as well as decide what pattern(s) you'd like to work on for the remainder of classes. We will also learn how to read the patterns in the book so that students are able to purchase the thread colors they need to create their pattern. Students will also need to provide an item to stitch on (a hat, jacket, shirt, bag, fabric/hoop, etc.). You will be provided a needle, needle minder, a sheet of stabilizer for your chosen patterns, and fabric/hoop for practicing stitches. If you have taken classes with Jess before and are familiar with patterns and have the book, feel free to arrive to the first class with your materials to get started on a pattern!
