About this event
Performance art is a time-based visual art form in which the artist's body, actions, and presence become the artwork itself. Unlike theater, performance art does not require a script, character, or narrative. Instead, it often explores ideas, emotions, social issues, personal experiences, and the relationship between the body, space, objects, and audience. Performance Art Practices is an introductory course designed for individuals interested in exploring performance as a creative, reflective, and transformative practice. Through a series of guided exercises and discussions, students will investigate the history and foundations of performance art while developing their own approaches to embodied expression. Participants can expect to engage in breathing exercises, meditation, movement exploration, repetition-based actions, sensory awareness activities, and improvisational prompts that encourage mindfulness and presence. The course emphasizes process over product, inviting students to slow down, listen to their bodies, and discover new ways of communicating through action rather than words. Students will be encouraged to approach the work playfully, thoughtfully, emotionally, or conceptually, depending on their interests and comfort level. No prior experience in performance, theater, dance, or visual art is required. Through individual and collaborative exercises, participants will gain a greater understanding of performance art as both an artistic practice and a tool for reflection, exploration, and connection. Please check your registration confirmation email for a link to class supply lists.
