This class is perfect for anyone who loves drawing with color and wants to develop and improve their use of color. Learn the difference in the two types of powder pastels and how to use them together to create colorful works of art. We will use still life, nature and landscape to develop your drawing skills. Color Theory will naturally be discussed in every class, so you will develop your understanding and use of color. Advanced Students may also work on personal projects. Although this class helps you develop your realism skills, you may choose to work abstractly. At the end of this class the student will understand how to use and layer hard and soft pastels for still lifes, landscapes, and other subject matter. The student will have a basic understanding of Color Theory and use of color combinations that are guaranteed to to be successful. Week 1 - Review supplies, learn techniques of use, how to begin and color layering with pure vs. opaque color, demonstration, draw a fruit or vegetable. Week 2 - Lecture color theory; still life. Week 3 – Study a tree - texture demonstration. Week 4 – Landscape - lecture-tips for depth. Week 5 - Fold of cloth study- directional shading. Week 6 - Animal study. Week 7 - Mastercopy (choose a master artist to emulate) Learn through studying their techniques and building with color. Week 8 - Continue master copy. Week 9 - Free choice!
