Description

Take a break from the fast paced world and learn the fine craft of traditional typesetting. During this four session class we will be using antique tabletop platen presses, and vintage handset type to create small calling cards, and some very short form poetry. Neither previous printmaking experience or poetic expertise is needed. Properly locking compositions into the press takes patience, concentration, and eye for small details. But, what at first might feel tedious can become a rather calm zen process. There will be a lot of fun too, after the hard work of setting things up and proofing is done, printing and an edition of your pieces will be quite easy. Participants will certainly be making enough impressions of their pieces to trade with classmates, and still have plenty to give to family and friends.

REFUND POLICY: To receive a refund, students must submit their request at least 2 weeks before the first class. No refunds or transfers are guaranteed after this time. To withdraw from a class, you are required to email ChastainArts@AtlantaGA.gov and include your name, the class name, and your reason for withdrawal. The option to accept an account credit for the class withdrawal is preferred. If a withdrawal/refund is requested after 2 weeks prior to or after the class has begun, a $30 administration fee will be deducted and only an account credit will be processed to be used for future class registrations, clay purchases, and future purchases in our gift shop & gallery. If a class is running at minimum enrollment, we cannot process refunds or credits within 1 week of the class starting. If you register for a class after the session has begun, only an account credit will be processed if a withdrawal is requested. Anyone registered for a figure class with a model will be required to pay the model fee on the first day of class with cash or check to the instructor. Even if you request a withdrawal after the first day of class, you will be required to pay the model fee calculated based on enrollment on the first-class meeting. The Chastain Arts Center is not responsible for classes missed due to student absences and the student is not eligible to receive a refund or credit for any missed classes due to a student absence.
