Grades 10 - Adult. Join us for a flavorful adventure at Roll Your Own Sushi, where you will pop in your mouth the sushi you just hand rolled with the fillings of your choice! Community farm chef and Japanese native Kori Kanayama will teach you how to make sushi rice and a variety of fillings using fresh ingredients, ranging from traditional Japanese to seasonal vegetables and herbs, some from Kori’s home farm in Grass Lake. We will end by enjoying a hand roll sushi party. This workshop is perfect for anyone looking to have fun learning new culinary skills and discover authentic flavors with a cultural guide and a local farmer. Come alone, with your partner, children, friends or family to share this quintessential home party experience! Recipes for sushi fillings are included.
Ingredient notes: While we don’t anticipate using ingredients containing wheat gluten, we cannot accommodate those with Celiac disease because the kitchen facility is not gluten-free. There will not be seafood sushi fillings such as raw fish or fish roe. Some of the ingredients will be cooked with dashi, the traditional Japanese broth, made from sea kelp and shaved dried bonito (skipjack tuna) flakes.
Please bring: your own cutting board and kitchen knife, a hair covering or hat, an apron if you wish to protect your clothing, and a container with a tight-fitting lid to bring home leftovers, if any. Instructor: Kori Kanayama. 1 class.
