Adult. Prior hand-tool experience is strongly recommended; students should have completed a Beginning Hand Tool class or have equivalent experience. Take your hand-tool woodworking skills up a notch in this engaging, hands-on cabinet making class. You’ll build a small cabinet from the ground up, learning traditional joinery techniques along the way. Students will construct a cabinet carcass using dovetail or rabbet joinery, add dividers and a shelf set with dadoes, and build a functional drawer using their choice of joinery.
Two sample projects will be provided for inspiration, and students may choose the size of their cabinet based on skill level and personal preference. By the end of the course, you’ll have a well-crafted, functional cabinet—and a deeper understanding of classic cabinet construction.
This is a traditional hand-tool class, with most work completed using chisels, saws, and hand planes. All tools and materials are provided. Materials fee: $50, payable to the instructor on the first night of class. Instructor: Ken Ray. 10 classes. No class 5/14 and 6/11.
Residents in the AAPS district boundaries ages 65+ may be eligible for a 25% discount off one class per term. Registration must be completed over the phone (734) 994-2300 ext. 0, Monday-Friday between 8am-5pm. Please click on the following link for more information: Senior Adult Discount Policy
