Chess with Parker
Grades: 3rd-5th. Be introduced to the fundamentals of chess through engaging lessons, guided practice, and friendly competition. Learn rules, tactics, and strategies while developing focus, patience, and good sportsmanship. Between classical chess boards and digital tools, this class accommodates a range of skill levels - from beginners learning how the pieces move to more experienced players refining their openings and endgames. Instructor: Parker Willis. 6 classes.


Weekly Instruction Layout:

  • Week 1: Introduction and Openings - rules, setup, and general opening principles
  • Week 2: Check, Checkmate, and Stalemate - how games end
  • Week 3: Tactics I - pins, forks, and skewers
  • Week 4: Endgame Basics - key checkmates and pawn promotion
  • Week 5: Strategy & Game Play - planning, trading, and time management
  • Week 6: Tournament Week - Swiss-style mini tournament and review
