Authored Politics Trumps Nuclear Science (2014). Description: Resolutions to nuclear waste are critical. Atom splitting led to global military/commercial nuclear reactor development, more than 450,000 gallons of lethal nuclear waste globally, some 90,000 stored in the U.S., while 2,000 more are produced each year. Congressional efforts to plan a national, safe, and permanent geologic repository for high-level radioactive waste failed. Public safety and health are at risk of unanticipated catastrophic events. Deadly radioactive poison used on unknowing victims leaves the prospect for new forms of warfare. This course refutes the mantra that nuclear energy and waste are “clean, cheap & safe,” and reviews prospective resolutions.
