Instructor: Dr. Allison Hamilton Molnar is an expert in non-profit management, fundraising, and American Politics. She has been with Citizens for Nuclear Technology Awareness (CNTA) since 2017. She is active in the Aiken community, serving on various non-profit boards and organizations. She also teaches political science at Middle Georgia State University and the University of South Carolina Aiken. She received her master’s and PhD in Political Science from the University of Iowa, a Master’s Degree in Applied Politics from the University of Akron, and attended Grand Valley State University for her bachelor’s degree. Description: What does the public think about nuclear energy? How do we have productive conversations about the benefits and risks associated with this technology? What does it mean when the news talks about SMRs vs AMRs? This course will provide an overview of current technologies in use and in design and help students better understand the news surrounding nuclear energy. We will start with public opinion data on Plant Vogtle, spent nuclear fuel, etc. and end the course with a ‘current events’ primer.
