His work experience includes service with Ingalls Shipbuilding, Bausch & Lomb, the Air Force Communications Command and 30 years with DOE-Savannah River. He has been married to Mary Elaine for 53 years and has three children and three grandsons. Description: In 1920, a new country appeared in Europe. This new country, known as Yugoslavia, was created by the Paris Peace Conference after World War I by assigning Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia, Montenegro and Macedonia (all provinces of the former Austrian Empire) to the Kingdom of Serbia. This new nation lasted only 70 years, breaking up into 6 independent countries after a series of wars of independence in the early 1990s. This course describes how that nation was formed, why it broke apart after such a short time and discusses the status of the new countries formed from the breakup.
