About this event
Instructor: Dr. Andy Dyer is a retired biology professor at USCA. He has published two general science books: one on pesticide resistance and agriculture (Chasing the Red Queen, 2014) and the second on the microbiome (Eaters Digest, 2022). His interest in life-history patterns led him to study cemeteries, death certificates, and old documents to better understand the people, places and things in Aiken County over the past 200 years. Description: Aiken was established in 1835, and nearly every property in the older parts of town has been used for different purposes and built on several times. There is broken glass everywhere. Often, it is possible to find intact glass or pieces with recognizable marks. Determining the age of the glass begins with keen observation, finding maker’s marks, and knowing a few websites. After an introduction, the session will be a hands-on experience in looking for telltale clues.
