Instructor: Steve Gordy is an active CLL volunteer who studied history at the University of Florida and Yale University. One of his interests is looking at “when things changed, and why.” He believes that often the things that make the greatest difference in human lives can only be discerned in retrospect. Description: Despite surviving the Battle of Britain and the Blitz, Great Britain was arguably in worse shape in the Spring of 1941. Hitler conquered the Balkans and inflicted a major defeat on the British at Crete. Although American Lend-Lease aid was running the German gauntlet in the Atlantic, an airborne invasion of the UK looked possible. But two things changed the dynamic of the war: a significant naval victory, followed by the German invasion of the Soviet Union. This reversal of fortune meant that things were never as dark for Britain as before.
