Instructor: Dr. Bauer Vaughters has been a practicing endocrinologist in Aiken since 2003. He treats a wide array of endocrine disorders, including but not limited to diabetes, thyroid disease, osteoporosis, adrenal and pituitary disorders and hypogonadism. He is board-certified in both general internal medicine and Endocrinology and Metabolism by the American Board of Internal Medicine. Description: Osteoporosis is a major health issue for older Americans. Complications from osteoporotic fractures range from minor disability to death. Understanding osteoporosis and bone loss, and what you can do to prevent and treat it, could save you or a loved one’s life. Dr. Vaughters will review basic bone physiology, review treatment options for bone loss, address controversies about osteoporosis treatments and answer any questions students may have. This is a short, interactive discussion to not only educate students on osteoporosis but also create awareness of an issue that is often overlooked.
