About this event
Description
Our first excursion of the new year will be a docent-led tour of our downtown library. It is the third largest library in the United States, and compromises 2.1 million books, 10,000 magazine subscriptions, and over 2 million historic photographs. The rare books department houses some extremely rare and important items relating to California history. The architecture of this building is beautiful, being of the Beaux-Arts era and was designed by Bertham Goodhue and built in 1926. If you enjoy interesting, old buildings, you will be impressed seeing the multicolor-tiled pyramidal tower, historical murals, sculptures, and inscriptions. There is a beautiful garden which has waterways, pools, and fountains, along with works of art incorporated into the garden. If you enjoy California history, you won't want to miss this trip! Lunch will be at La Abeja Restaurant, a favorite of our seniors. Meal is not included in the price of the trip. 2026 Senior Membership is required for this excursion. NOTE: EXTENSIVE WALKING. ADA ACCESSIBLE. REFUNDS/TRANSFERS/CREDITS GRANTED ONLY IF YOUR SPOT CAN BE FILLED. Location: Los Angeles * Shuttle Departs: Recreation CenterWear comfortable walking shoes.
