About this event

Schedule: Thursdays, 4- 5:30pm Dates: Nov 2- Nov 30, 2023 (4 sessions, no class Nov 23) Practice different drawing and painting techniques in a fun, studio environment. Participants will learn line quality, form, color, negative space, and composition strategies to improve their technical drawing skills. Teens will be introduced to watercolor techniques and practice controlling this notoriously unpredictable medium. Using nature as our guide, we will learn about color mixing, layering, and blending as well as hard and soft edges and different strokes and effects to create beautiful illustrations. Participants will work from observation using photo references as well as natural objects. All levels are welcome. Instruction is provided to meet each student’s individual interests, needs, and strengths. Bio: Yael Levy is a mixed media artist, storyteller, printmaker, and art teacher based in Berkeley, CA. She draws, paints, collages, and writes. She often self publishes her work, and sometimes prints and binds it by hand. She loves playing with forms and format and mixing digital and tactile techniques. Most of Yael’s work is based on her own experience as a brown, bi-racial, bilingual, and bisexual woman. She also enjoys telling others’ stories, making up imaginary creatures, and just painting images of beautiful nature. She believes the creative process to be its own reward and the act of making an incredible tool for healing and growing. Born and raised in Israel, Yael completed her BFA in Illustration at Parsons School of Design and MFA in Comics at CCA (2017).
