Ever wanted to know what is so special about 19th century architecture like Rockwood? Familiar with the Gothic Revival, the Aesthetic Movement, and the Arts and Crafts Movement but always wanted to take a deeper dive? In conjunction with Rockwood's innovative art installation, The Nature of Gothic, discover the British design sources that influenced the picturesque appearance of Rockwood and many notable houses from the 1800's. Each 45-minute lecture will be followed by low-key opportunities to discuss important design publications from the period and see how they relate to The Nature of Gothic art installations. Sunday, October 13 - The second of three lectures explores the Aesthetic Movement, an architectural style associated with the philosophy of "Art for Art's Sake." With roots in early 19th century English design reform, the Aesthetic Movement fostered European and American appreciation for ornament sourced from around the globe.
