The Desert Hiking First Aid course is designed to enhance the natural Sonoran Desert experience and improve the overall safety of all visitors to the Scottsdale McDowell Sonoran Preserve and other urban hiking areas. This course will provide students with knowledge to improve the level of preparedness and safety of the recreational hiker/Preserve visitors. In addition, this course will provide instruction on basic treatments to manage medical emergencies that may be encountered while enjoying hikes that are expected to be less than 8 hours long. All course objectives are based on National Emergency Medical Services Education Competency Standards, as well as the National Park Service Guidelines for Emergency Medical Care.
