About this event

Cellists! Eric Wright returns to Get Folky! Learn the basics for playing Celtic, Traditional and Folk Tunes. Aug 24, Sept 7, 14 & 28 (no classes Aug 31 or Sept 21) 1pm ET 90 minute classes. All sessions are recorded for your review and practice. The videos are yours to keep forever and a day! We will start with the basics of the rhythmic technique called “The Chop”, incorporating the percussive elements into chordal accompaniments and realizing the grooves within. Once we have the basics down, we will dive deeper into rhythmic improvisation, increasing the intensity of the chop every class, so that we have the vocabulary to jam with all sorts of musicians and styles! Taught by Eric Wright, a unique cellist. Raised on pure Vermont air and inspired by his love for American Old Time and Irish music. Eric sets out to incorporate cello into new and traditional music in ways that haven't been done before. Taking his innovative bowing techniques, chording styles, and 'the chop', to new levels, Eric has become a highly sought-after performer, accompanist, producer, session musician, and arranger for all types of folk styles. Eric is a Juno Award winning artist who has performed and recorded with numerous bands including Ruth Moody, Trey Anastasio, Natalie MacMaster, The Fretless, John Reischman, Mairi Rankin, and many others.
