How to Exercise Your Dog Outdoors in the Heat

2. Walk or run on pavement—it's very hot on their pads. Always feel the ground when you have your dog out in the heat; if you can't walk on the ground barefoot then Rex can't either! This goes for the sand, soil and rocks as well.

3. Leave your dog in your car; it's like an oven even for a few minutes. Leave Lassie at home in the A/C instead.

4. Demand any physical activity from him in the middle of the day.

Remember: Just because you're not overheating doesn't mean that your pooch is feeling OK. You don't have fur insulating your body—and you have sweat glands to cool you.
