It's never too early for students to learn about the Stock Market and Personal Financial Literacy. Students may enroll for either 1, 2 or 3 weeks. This course will utilize the accredited Middle School curriculum developed by Next Gen Personal Finance(NGPF) , the largest Financial Literacy educational platform in the US with more than 100,000 US teachers trained and 11 million students participating annually. On the first two days of their enrollment, students will learn the principles of investing and how to create a prudent stock portfolio with positive growth potential. Then while observing the performance of the Stock Market and the movement of their individual stock choices, students will work with peers in pods (supervised by the Course Instructor) on the following NGPF educational topics: Banks, Checking Accounts, Savings Accounts, CDs, Money Market Accounts, Bank Fees, Overdraft Protection, Intro to Loans/Borrowing Money, Intro to Credit Cards, Difference between Debit and Credit Cards, Peer to Peer Payment Apps (Venmo, Zelle, CashApp), Protecting Identity, Beware of Online Financial Scams.Students will work on real world financial literacy math problems to acquire advanced skills. This is not remedial mathematics - students will apply their current grade-level math abilities to address topics adults encounter in stock market investing, calculating taxes, evaluating business decisions and managing household finances. Students will also work on Desmos, an interactive math platform that allows students to explore concepts deeply and practice creative problem-solving. Instructor: D. Klein
