We're sorry, but this activity is over. The last meeting was Saturday, January 6, 2024.Want to get an Amateur Radio license or upgrade? Before you can operate a ham radio station, you do need to pass an exam to have the knowledge necessary for operating responsibly. CARA or Culpeper Amateur Radio Association testers can help you accomplish this within a few hours. Culpeper County Parks & Recreation is excited to partner with CARA, to provide exam testing and FCC licensing beginning November 1st.
One of the big reasons why so many people love ham radio is because it is the most powerful and longest range radio service available to the general public, once you get a license. Over 700,000 people in the US alone practice, simply using a battery, radio, antenna, and a little knowledge, to communicate around the world without your cell phone or an internet connection.
You must pre-register for your spot, easily online or in-person. We welcome your participation in advance or on exam day (the same day of class). Either way, check-in is required at the front desk to complete the registration process. Fees are minimal and can be paid at that time.
NOTE: This program only involves the test and is not a class. Your exam will be evaluated onsite, and you will receive your licensing credentials shortly thereafter. Should you have questions about how to get started in the process, there are many online resources available to research. CARA’s website is a good place to begin! https://w4cul.org/
*You may register the same day of the program, as long as class is in session.
