If you love drawing and want to learn more about etching but aren’t sure where to start, this is the perfect workshop! Soft ground etchings are an approachable way to create image on a plate since the image is drawn directly on a piece of paper that transfers to the coated copperplate underneath. This process produces prints with beautifully soft quality, fluid marks and excellent control over line weight and pressure. While the focus is on guiding you through the entire process of soft ground etching, the goal is to have fun, gain comfortability with the materials and the studio, and to get all your questions answered. Participants should arrive with an original drawing (line work with simple tonal range) at 7X7” that they are ready to turn into an etching. Each participant will receive a 7X7” copperplate that they will draw their image onto and will make at least one print.
