Swimmer 7/8: Rookie/Ranger Patrol
Margaret Grant Pool/Piscine 685 Dalhousie Dr. Winnipeg, MB, Canada R3T 3Y2 Organized by City of WinnipegAbout this event
Description
Rookie candidates continue stroke development with 50 m swims of front crawl, back crawl, and breaststroke. Lifesaving sport skills include a 25 m obstacle swim and 15 m object carry. First aid focuses on assessment of conscious victims, contacting EMS, and treatment for bleeding. Fitness improves in 350 m workouts and 100 m timed swims.
Ranger swimmers develop better strokes over 75 m swims of each stroke. They tackle lifesaving sport skills in a lifesaving medley, timed object support and rescue with a buoyant aid. First aid focuses on assessment of unconscious victims, treatment of victims in shock and obstructed airways procedures. Skill drills develop a strong lifesaving foundation.
Star swimmers are challenged with 600 m workouts; 300 m timed swims and a 25 m object carry. Strokes are refined over 100m swims. First aid focuses on treatment of bone or joint injuries and respiratory emergencies including asthma and allergic reactions. Lifesaving skills include defense methods, victims removals and rolling over and supporting a victim face up in shallow water.
Please practice healthy swimming behaviors:
*Please do not go swimming if you are feeling unwell, especially if you have an upset stomach
*Please do not bring your child to swimming lessons if they are feeling unwell, have diarrhea, are vomiting (or have vomited in the past day) or have a cough
*Avoid swallowing the pool water or getting water in your mouth
*Please do not feed your child before swimming and do not go swimming for one hour after eating
*Non-toilet trained participants must wear leak-proof swim pants or garments of a similar nature
In the event that our pool water is contaminated with fecal matter or vomit, facility staff are required to close the pool for 2 - 24 hours in order to properly disinfect the water and to ensure water quality is within the appropriate range set by the Public Health Act before swimmers can re-enter the pool.
A child repeating a level is very common, however, please speak with the deck supervisor if your child has repeated a level for the third or fourth time.
