This 2-day workshop will set you on the right path with your watercolor journey. You will learn how to do washes, paint wet in wet and execute glazes. Color mixing and composition will be addressed also. A loose, free style will be encouraged. You can paint along with Laurie or work from your own photo references.
Laurie Daddona’s Watercolor Class Supply List
BRUSHES:
1” or ¾” Flat, wash brush 11/2” or 2”, #10 Round or #12 Round, #6 Round
Synthetic brushes are fine. Winsor Newton brushes or Connoisseur brushes will serve you well without the huge expense. If you have others please bring them.
PAINTS:At first a set of primary colors and some neutrals should be fine. The list below is just a suggestion. If you already have paints and are happy with them, please bring them. Winsor & Newton, DaVinci, Daniel Smith Watercolors are all good quality. Buy the best you can afford. Stay away from the student grade watercolors like Cottman. They have white mixed with them and give you muddy colors.
Permanent Rose, Alizarin Crimson, and Cadmium RedCereluean Blue, Cobalt Blue, Prussian Blue and Ultramarine BlueAureolin Yellow, Hansa Yellow, New Gamboge, And Quinacridone Gold. The new Quinacridone colors are wonderful. They are very brilliant. I like all of them, but Quinacridrone sienna, Q. gold, and Q. coral are some of my favorites. They are optional.
Burnt Sienna and Burnt Umber for a neutral.
PAPER:A watercolor block comes in several different sizes and is already stretched. There are about 20 sheets in each block and the blocks come in rough, smooth (hot pressed), and medium texture (cold pressed). I would suggest a medium size, 12X16. These blocks are easy to carry. However, they can be expensive.
Canson also makes a 140# paper. and it is not as expensive. If it is any help to you, I work mostly with 140 lb. Cold Press paper, but it is your choice.
ADDITIONAL SUPPLIES:
A pencil A sponge Soft eraser Paper towels Sketch book Palette Water container Color Wheel
*Please don’t go buy all these things. Bring what you have and we will make it work.
