Description
Experimenting with Gouache (from an oil painter's perspective)w/Jon RedmondA twelve (12) session classExperimenting with Gouache (from an oil painter’s perspective)
This class will cover the basics of working in the Gouache medium as well as delve into its ability to facilitate experimentation and perhaps bring a fresh approach to your other favorite painting mediums.Because gouache is a simple water based medium and very quick drying, it is great for trying out ideas and painting techniques that would be more difficult and time consuming in an oil painting medium. Plus, it’s just dammed fun to paint with. Class will consist of demonstrations on Jon’s personal approach to the medium as well as lots of class time and encouragement to experiment with your own techniques, subjects and ideas.Working from both still life subject and/or photo references is encouraged. See materials list for basic supplies. Gouache materials listA Basic gouache pigment selection consisting of at least the three primary colors plus white but hopefully more color selections that are similar to what you would choose for your oil painting palette. (See my selections below)Tubed colors are preferable, but a block gouache set is also acceptable.Watercolor paper block or pad in a size that is comfortable for you. A selection of water medium brushes in a range of sizes. (3 or 4 from 1/4-inch 1 inch is more than enough) or larger if you feel the need. Both pointy and mop brushes are helpful.White tray palette (like you would use for watercolor) 8” x 10” or larger (I like a white enamel photo tray) Plastic jar or cup for water (lidded is good for outdoor painting)Paper towels Any other painting tools you might like to experiment with (knives, squeegees, sponges etc.) My current personal pigment selection consists of these colors but please bring whatever pigments you wish to use.
