Animal Portraits in Oilsw/Stefanie LiebermanAn eleven (11) session courseThursdays, September 19 - December 12No class on October 3 or November 28This workshop is designed to help the student capture the likeness and personality of their subject through the use of form, anatomy tonal harmonies and paint application. The workshop will begin with a short painting demonstration. Students will work from photographs and learn how to transform that image into a painting by using a variety of techniques that will help capture the characteristics that are specific to their chosen animal. Individual instruction will be given throughout the painting course. Open to students of all levels.
Stefanie Lieberman Materials List:Oil and Acrylic Colors:
Yellow: cadmium yellow pale
Blue: cerulean blue, ultramarine
Red: cadmium red light, alizarin crimson
Green: sap green, viridian
Earth: raw umber, burnt sienna, yellow ochre or raw sienna or transparent yellow oxide
White: titanium
Brushes: flat brushes in a variety of sizes; make sure you include a few soft, synthetic or sable, a round or filbert and at least one 2" or larger soft, flat brush for glazing. Make sure these are not watercolor brushes.
Palette knife - flexible, cranked shaft at least 3in long.
Palette, wood or paper (toned paper is preferable)
Stretched canvas or gessoed panel
Paper towels and painting rags
For oil painters:
Linseed oil or Liquin
Turpenoid or odorless paint thinner - NOT TURPENOID NATURAL!
Containers for linseed oil and turpenoid
