About this event
In this hands-on workshop, learn ways to create rustic and organic forms on and off the wheel. We will start by making faceted yunomis and explore different ways to create rustic surfaces using slips, dry clays and sodium silicate. Students will make bowls, plates, and platters with organic edges and also delve into kurinuki carving to make asymmetrical pieces such as ikebana vases, rock jars, and mortar pestles. To round out the workshop weekend, we’ll discuss glazing techniques that would help enhance the rustic look in cone 6 oxidation for students to consider in their future practices. Student Requirements (materials to bring, necessary skills, etc): Students are required to be at an intermediate level for throwing or handbuilding. Students may bring their own personal tools or use Ah Haa’s tools during the workshop Please note: All ceramics projects need to be fired in a pottery kiln and take approximately 1-2 weeks before they are ready to be taken home. You will receive an email once pieces are ready for pickup. If you will no longer be in Telluride, domestic shipping options are available via a third party, Ship It, Copy It. If you have not made arrangements with our Ceramics Director, Ah Haa will discard ceramics projects 30 days after the end of a class. For those who need to have their pieces shipped domestically, please be sure to select this option during the registration process. The total cost for safely packaging and shipping your ceramics projects will be listed on the online registration page for each class. Take note that Ah Haa does not offer international shipping as a standard option.
