The New Year's Day 5K Downtown Safety Harbor At United BBQ
United Smokehouse Downtown Safety Harbor 519 2nd Street Safety Harbor, FL 34695 Organized by XRMAbout this event
You're invited to join us for the New Year’s Day 5K in downtown Safety Harbor, Florida. We are celebrating with the WOW AND WINE medals for 2025! This is the ONLY race of the year you take home two great medals as we ring in the new year. Our venue host is United BBQ, 519 2nd Street South, Safety Harbor, FL 34695.
An email will be sent to all registrants the day before race day so please look up your bib number now and print your waiver. We will have waivers on site if you don’t have access to a printer.
Parking is free at the venue and in any of the brick spaces around the downtown area so we think you’ll find it nice and convenient. Plan to arrive at 9:30 a.m. It should be chilly in the morning and things are very well organized so we will have plenty of time for each of you to check in efficiently. Then, just a few minutes before 10 a.m. Suzanne will walk you as a group just 4 short blocks down 2nd street to the run start/finish at the marina. Realistically we’ll get the run started at 10:15 a.m. for everyone’s comfort.
The run is entirely on the 8 foot wide sidewalk out and back from the marina so remember to keep to your right and when passing other runs and walkers, yell happily “ON YOUR LEFT.” We limit this event to 100 runners so it doesn’t get overly congested. If you are running with a dog or stroller we ask that you start toward the back and again, keep to your right the entire way ESPECIALLY after the turn around. We are fully permitted by the City of Safety Harbor but we are not exclusive to this route. We are NOT using any roads so remember to stay on the concrete path. There will be a water aid station at the turn around and every race has a bike lead.
Remember to shout out HAPPY NEW YEAR to any volunteers and to your fellow runners in front of you as they pass by after the turn at the half way mark. If you don’t want to run the full 3.1 just turn at your comfort distance and ask that your time not be recorded once you reach the finish line. This is a celebratory 5K. For those that complete the full distance there will be 15 blue/male and 15 red/female WINNER cards at the finish line arch. If they are still there as you reach the finish, grab one that matches your gender and bring it back to United BBQ on your walk back to redeem for a top finisher’s framed award. Please use the same side walk route back to the venue that we take you on to race start.
All participants will get their race day medal back at the venue. We’ll cheer for our fast runners, special age groups, and play some fun trivia together! We’ll have free champagne or mimosa (and flavored soda water for the kids) at United BBQ when you get back to the party as well as a BBQ slider sampler. You’re encouraged to open a tab with the bartender if you want to order from the menu or pay for cocktails or beer at the outdoor full liquor bar where our party is staged. We’ll be outdoors most of the morning so dress comfortably in layers. Staff is coming into work tomorrow just for US! Just follow the music and you’ll find the fun.
Your finish times, which can be found at www.727CanRace.com are never posted on site or at the venue. You can find them later in the afternoon by clicking the results tab on the website. We do this to encourage a laid back group of runners and walkers who are out for fun and celebration vs. stiff competition.
Restrooms are located at the venue and at the marina just a short jog from the finish arch. Audra will be at bag check in the morning if you need it, mainly for those who are using Uber or Lyft.
Okay EVERYONE THIS IS IT! Get ready to say GOOD RIDDANCE last year and HELLO YOU BEAUTIFUL AND HOPEFUL NEW YEAR. WE NEED GOOD HEALTHAND CHEER! See you NewYear'sDay. For questions, text Suzanne at 727-CAN-RACE/727-226-7223.
Put the address in your navigation app now as it’s parallel to the main strip but it’s not directly at the marina race start either. See you at check in: United BBQ, 519 2nd Street South, Safety Harbor, FL 34695.
Happy New Year! We love you more than words and intend to make you feel that love at EVERY XANADU celebratory event!
